A positive pregnancy test is just the first step. Next, no matter how you decide to move forward with your pregnancy, you will need to get an ultrasound to determine the gestational age and make sure the pregnancy is within the uterus.
We offer free, non-invasive limited obstetrical (OB) ultrasounds that are performed by a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) and read by a physician. No insurance necessary.
An ultrasound is an imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce a visual image of the inside of your uterus. Usually, an ultrasound is performed early in a pregnancy to confirm you're actually pregnant, determine gestational age, and determine if the pregnancy is within the uterus. Ultrasounds are performed again later to more thoroughly check on the health of the fetus.
During a non-invasive limited obstetrical (OB) ultrasound, the registered diagnostic medical sonographer (RDMS) applies a gel-like substance to your abdomen. The gel helps transmit sound waves. A hand-held device called a transducer is rubbed over the gel to record the echoes of the sound waves it picks up. It’s those echoes that create an image on a computer screen.
This type of ultrasound is "limited" because it is not used to perform a full medical evaluation and is not diagnostic. It is meant to provide answers to some of the most basic questions in the early stages of pregnancy. After your limited OB ultrasound appointment, you will be equipped with more information about your situation.
We recommend following-up with your OB/GYN and can assist with helping you find one, if needed.
To be eligible for a limited OB ultrasound at Insight Medical Clinic, you must meet the following criteria:
